Frequently Asked Questions |
| My friends and I usually organize our own tours, why would we want to do a guided tour?
Our guided tours have numerous advantages just a few of them that will stand out in particular are these listed. The first one is that we have scouted out the areas on numerous trips; we know the area well and will lead you on roads, and to places, that you might not discover on your own. You'll enjoy experiences and adventures that other motorcycle visitors to the region will often miss. The second is that, by carefully selecting and arranging extraordinary lodging and dining locations throughout the tour, we open up more of your valuable escape time for riding and having fun. Allowing you a worry free holiday trip to enjoy, after all, isnt that what your here for? Last, but certainly not least, our tours give you the chance to enjoy the friendship of many different riders from several parts of the world. In addition to enjoying a vastly wonderful motorcycling vacation you'll have an opportunity to gain new friendships that could last a lifetime. |
I like to discover on my own when I tour; do I need to stay with the group?
On our tours you are always free to set your own pace, to travel on your own. We provide instructions for each and every day. The group ride will leave together each morning and you may join it for all day, part of the day or just sit back and relax and not join us at all. In any case, you'll benefit from our wide and expansive knowledge of the area, custom ride maps, route sheets and ride suggestions. Gourmet Dinners and superb accommodations will be waiting for you at the end of the day so you won't use valuable riding time searching for places to eat and stay. There is a maximum of twelve motorcycles allowed on any tour. |
What will I have to to pay for while on tour?
Lunch meals and some Dinners are not included in the tour prices because riders usually like to end up in a number of different places at lunch or Dinner time, depending on whether they decide to ride with the group or explore on their own. Alcoholic beverages are also not included in the tour price. Other than that, incidentals and spending money should be the only other general costs. Motorcycle Rentals are not inlcuded, however, BDMT has established arrangments for your Rental contracts, which will always include insurance and unlimited mileage while on tour. See your specific Tour for any additional costs incurred. |
How much riding knowledge or experience should I have before I take a tour?
Each of our tours are Diamond rated! You will see a Black Diamond next to each tour which, like white water rafting rapids, and snow ski slopes, determines how challenging the tour will be. Please look these tours over before signing up for them or please call us for more information at the numbers listed below. Our only formal prerequisite is a valid motorcycle license, we strongly recommend that riders have several thousand miles riding experience and, preferably, have participated in a formal rider education program such as the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's basic and/or experienced rider courses before coming on tour. The roads we use are paved and generally in very good condition but they include some challenging mountain curves. Our group riding pace is relaxed and several stops are built into each day's schedule. We average about 200 miles of daily riding so riders and passengers should have experience with riding that distance comfortably. If you are relatively new to motorcycle touring, we suggest you start with one of our shorter five-day tours. We strongly recommend that all riders call us for more information at 352-481-5149 if they have any questions about the match between their riding experience and our tours. |

What type of riders takes your tours?
Riders on our tours have come from all areas of the world. Ages have ranged from 18 to 75, both of which were in the same tour, Grandfather and Grandson, and they were excellent riders! All of our riders are looking for that chance to relax and let someone else deal with the hassles and details of the tour. They want to make new friends meet new people while on a new tour to a fun place. Most have already ridden all sorts of motorcycles, with the most popular being cruising, touring and sport touring models. We ourselves don't believe in any type of "branding" or "motorcycle cliques" and our riders seem to feel the same way. They are motorcyclists first and foremost and they enjoy the variety of motorcycles our tours always include. Above all, our riders always seem to enjoy each other's company; they are different ages and ride different bikes but all seem to have genuine passion for enjoying life and just plain riding. Any reliable, safe and comfortable motorcycle is welcome on tour so long as its exhaust has not been modified to be louder than legal limits. |
What is expected of me as a rider?
As the operator of a motor vehicle, you are expected to comply with all applicable laws relating to the operation of your vehicle. YOU are responsible for evaluating the safe operation of your vehicle based on the prevailing road and weather conditions. We strongly discourage reckless riding. We firmly believe that as riders, we are ambassadors of our sport and how we treat other vehicles on the roads will reflect on all riders. If you are into smoking burnouts, blasting music from your onboard speakers in hotel parking lots, passing while approaching blind curves, or other basically obnoxious behavior, please don't bother to sign up for our events. Many of the towns we will be visiting are known for their quiet and peaceful environments, we do not want to spoil that atmosphere. If you have straight pipes on your bikes, leave them at home.
Drinking alcohol is not allowed during the day until after the ride. No exceptions! Violation will result in the cancellation of the remainder of the tour WITHOUT a refund. You will be responsible for making arrangements to get you and your bike home. |
